Chichen Itza Classic Tour

4.2 69 avis vérifiés

This full-day excursion centers on Chichen Itza, the most recognized of Mexico's Mayan archaeological sites, and rounds out the itinerary with a cenote swim, a regional buffet, and a stop in the colonial town of Valladolid. It's built as a comprehensive introduction to the region for travelers who want the headline ruin site alongside a taste of local food, water, and small-town atmosphere in a single outing, led by a certified guide throughout.

The day begins at Chichen Itza itself, where the guide spends about two hours walking the group through the site, centered on El Castillo, the stepped pyramid that anchors the ancient city. The narration covers how the settlement developed into one of the most significant centers of Mayan civilization, giving context to the temples and structures scattered across the grounds. From there, the group moves to a cenote — either Chichikan or Noolha, depending on availability — for roughly an hour of swimming in naturally filtered water inside a limestone sinkhole. Chichikan is open-air with limestone walls and a small waterfall, while Noolha has a more enclosed, cave-like setting with calm blue water; either way, it's a shift from ruins-and-history mode into something more physical and cooling. A regional buffet lunch follows the cenote visit, giving travelers a chance to refuel before the last leg of the day.

The final stop is Valladolid, a colonial town where the group gets about 30 minutes to take in the surroundings, browse local textiles and crafts — including the traditional huipil dress — and sample Mexican ice cream in the town center. It's a shorter stop by design, more of a wind-down after the physical activity of the ruins and the cenote than a full walking tour.

Because the day moves through a major archaeological site, a swim stop, and a town visit, it suits travelers looking for one tour that touches history, nature, and local culture rather than three separate bookings. The tour is described as suitable for all physical fitness levels, though it's not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, cardiovascular concerns, or pregnant travelers, and infants must sit on an adult's lap during transport. Note also that backpacks are strictly prohibited inside the archaeological site, so plan what you carry accordingly.

Included in the tour are a certified guide, air-conditioned transportation, the regional buffet, a quick visit to Valladolid, and admission to both Chichen Itza and the cenote. Not included are the archaeological entrance fee for Chichen Itza itself, taxes for professional or GoPro cameras used at the site, and life vests and lockers at the cenote, which are cash-only. Drinks and a box-lunch breakfast are only included if booking the Plus option. Bring a towel, swimsuit, and comfortable shoes such as sneakers for the walking involved, and use biodegradable sunblock and personal-care products, which the operator requires out of respect for the cenote ecosystem.

Pickup runs on a single schedule window, generally between 6:30 am and 7:45 am, with the exact time varying by hotel. If your property isn't already on the operator's pickup list, provide your hotel name in the special requirements box and by email so a representative can confirm your specific pickup time and location by text message or email ahead of the tour.
