Cobá is one of the most impressive Mayan archaeological sites in the Yucatán. Located about 45km northwest of Tulum, this ancient city housed 50,000 people at its peak and was connected to other cities by a network of raised stone causeways called sacbeob.
Nohoch Mul Pyramid
At 42 meters, the tallest climbable structure in the Yucatán Peninsula — unlike Chichén Itzá's El Castillo. The view from the top is extraordinary: an unbroken carpet of jungle extending to the horizon, with two blue lagoons visible through the canopy below.
Exploring by Bicycle
The site covers a large area — too large to comfortably walk. Bicycles for rent at the entrance (~$50–60 MXN) are the best way to navigate the jungle paths. Trishas (bicycle rickshaws) also available.
Combined with Tulum
Commonly combined with Tulum ruins in a single day. After the morning at the archaeological site, drive 45 minutes to Cobá for the afternoon. The route passes small Mayan villages and jungle interior — beautiful in itself.
