Playa Ruinas is one of the world's most dramatically situated beaches — a sliver of white sand at the base of the cliff where the Tulum Archaeological Zone stands. Swimming in crystal Caribbean water with Mayan temples above you is an experience unlike any other.
Access
The beach is reached via a staircase inside the archaeological site — a ruins ticket is required. Photography is exceptional, particularly in the morning before crowds arrive.
Swimming
Waves can be rough depending on conditions. Swimmable on calm days — check flags and currents before entering. The beach is small and gets crowded 10am–1pm.
Tips
Arrive at 8am when the ruins open. No facilities on the beach itself — bring water and sunscreen. After swimming, explore the entire archaeological zone just steps above.
