Playa Zamas

Playa Zamas is a beach along Tulum's Zona Hotelera, on the same beach road that runs the length of the hotel zone south of the ruins. It takes its name from Zamas, a beachfront hotel and restaurant that has operated here since the early 1990s — one of the longest-standing properties on this stretch of coast — and the name has become shorthand among locals and repeat visitors for this particular section of sand. Like most of the northern hotel zone, the beach here is protected from the open Caribbean swell, which keeps the water calm and generally clear for swimming rather than surfing. The sand is soft and pale, backed by palms and low dune vegetation, with a mix of independent hotels, beach clubs, and restaurants lining the road behind it rather than large resort compounds. Because the coastline here faces west across the bay, it's regarded as one of the more reliable sunset-watching spots in the hotel zone — many visitors plan an evening drink or dinner at a beachfront restaurant timed around it. Playa Zamas sits within walking or biking distance of other well-known hotel zone beaches, and it's a common stop for people cycling the length of the Zona Hotelera between Tulum Pueblo and the Sian Ka'an entrance further south.
