Las Coloradas Pink Lake & Rio Lagartos Guided Tour + Entry Fees
The experience
Northeast of Cancun, past the resort towns, the Yucatan coastline turns a color that looks almost artificial: a saturated pink, produced by the mineral-rich salt flats of Las Coloradas. This full-day group tour pairs that lagoon with the Rio Lagartos Biosphere Reserve next door, folding boat-based wildlife viewing, a traditional Mayan clay bath, a regional lunch, and an optional crocodile farm visit into a single organized outing from Cancun, so the planning and transport are handled for you.
The tour opens at the pink lagoons themselves, where roughly an hour is set aside to take in the color and, if you're lucky, catch flamingos moving across the water. From there the group heads into the Rio Lagartos Biosphere Reserve for a two-hour boat ride through the mangroves, a route built for spotting the reserve's wildlife — flamingos, pelicans, and crocodiles among them — in a setting the operator describes as largely untouched. A brief stop along the way allows for a dip in shallow water.
Midday shifts to food and rest: about an hour at a local restaurant serving seafood and regional Yucatecan dishes, with options like fried or grilled fish, ceviche, and seafood soup, plus vegetarian and vegan alternatives. The itinerary also includes a stop for a traditional Mayan clay bath and beach time as part of the day's slower stretch. For travelers who want to extend the wildlife encounter, an optional 40-to-45-minute visit to a crocodile farm rounds things out, offering a closer, controlled look at the animals seen from a distance on the boat.
Because everything from pickup to lunch to the boat tour is prearranged, this suits travelers who'd rather not coordinate multiple bookings — Las Coloradas, Rio Lagartos, and a meal — on their own, and who are comfortable with a shared-group format where other travelers join the same boat and restaurant seating. The operator lists it as suitable for all physical fitness levels, which makes it a workable option for families or older travelers who still want a full day of nature and wildlife without the physical demands of a more adventure-oriented tour. What distinguishes it from a solo drive to Las Coloradas is the Rio Lagartos boat component and the built-in cultural stop at the clay bath, both of which require local boat access that's easier to arrange as part of an organized tour.
Dress fresh and casual, and bring an umbrella, cap or hat, and sports shoes, since the day mixes sun exposure with time on and near water. Included in the tour are hotel or nearest-point pickup and drop-off, the flamingo sighting and Mayan clay bath, a box lunch on the boat (sandwich, fruit, juice, cookie), a bilingual certified guide, the seafood and regional restaurant lunch, one bottled water per person (extra drinks are purchasable), and the shallow-water dip stop. Not included are drinks at the restaurant, guide or staff tips, and the Las Coloradas salt tax, which travelers pay separately. Alcohol has a minimum age of 18, and the operator will refuse entry to anyone showing signs of intoxication, with no refund in that case.
Pickup covers most hotels in downtown Cancun, the Cancun hotel zone, and the Riviera Maya, with the company providing a nearest meeting point for Airbnbs or other addresses; travelers staying in Isla Mujeres or Cozumel are responsible for crossing over to reach the mainland meeting point, since pickups don't operate on those islands. Guests staying outside downtown Tulum have a single designated meeting point at the Super Aki Supermarket and need to arrange their own transportation there. Because pickup times and locations vary by hotel, the operator asks that you contact them directly beforehand to confirm your specific time, place, and any relevant recommendations. Note also that belongings left behind aren't the company's responsibility, and a recovery fee applies if a lost item is returned to a Cancun hotel or, outside that area, must be picked up at the office.
