Tulum Jungle Cenote & Turtle Swim

Tulum Jungle Cenote & Turtle Swim

This full-day outing through the Riviera Maya strings together three distinct ways of moving through the landscape around Tulum: on horseback through the jungle, submerged in a freshwater cenote, and snorkeling alongside sea turtles in the open bay. It's built as an eco-tour, with a guide who threads conservation context through each stop rather than treating the animals and scenery as a backdrop.

The day starts on horseback, riding trails through Tulum's jungle interior and getting a closer look at the plant and animal life along the way before arriving at Cenote Yum-Ha, a freshwater pool tucked off the main tourist routes. After time swimming in its clear water, the group travels to Akumal Bay, known for its resident green sea turtles, for a snorkeling session in their natural habitat.

Throughout the day the guide explains local conservation efforts and keeps the wildlife interactions in line with responsible eco-tourism practices, and biodegradable sunscreen is supplied specifically to avoid harming the cenote and bay ecosystems. The tour runs in small groups, which keeps the environmental footprint down and also means more direct access to the guide at each stop across the roughly seven-hour itinerary.

Because it combines horseback riding with two separate swimming stops, this tour suits travelers who want an active, varied day rather than a single focused activity, and it appeals particularly to those interested in the conservation angle behind the turtle encounter. Note that it isn't recommended for pregnant travelers or those with poor cardiovascular health, and it calls for at least a moderate level of fitness, so it's better suited to reasonably active visitors than a fully relaxed sightseeing day. An optional photo package is available for travelers who want the day documented without carrying their own camera.

Pack a towel, a bathing suit, an extra t-shirt, and both comfortable shoes and flip-flops, since you'll be moving between the jungle trail, the cenote, and the bay. Snorkel equipment, bottled water, and snacks are included, along with transport in an air-conditioned vehicle, while all fees and taxes, alcoholic beverages, and tips are left for travelers to cover separately.

Tulum operates on fixed meeting points only, with no hotel or Airbnb pickup available there; the Tulum pickup runs at 8:45 AM for about 15 minutes, while Playa del Carmen pickup runs from 7:30 to 8:00 AM, and Cancun pickup is offered only on Mondays and Fridays. Meet near the Super Aki or Chedraui parking area and look for staff in green shirts and caps and an unbranded white or gray van, keeping in mind that traffic, weather, or other guests can occasionally push the pickup time back.
