Kayak Mangroves Sunrise Experience

This sunrise kayak outing takes you into the mangroves of Holbox, an important area of the island where many animal species live together in one ecosystem. It lasts about 180 minutes, and going at first light means you paddle when it is not yet hot.

The operator recommends sunrise because many animals, such as crocodiles, are more active at night and may be resting in the morning. With few people around at that hour, you get quiet moments in nature and a chance to see different birds as you row.

You paddle through a labyrinth of mangroves. The itinerary highlights the silence of the mangroves mixing with birdsong, the colors of the sunrise, and the pink shades in the wings of flamingos. The channels also shelter crustaceans, fish, rays and other animals, and you may have a face-to-face encounter with crocodiles. Before the very first sunlight you may also catch some stars.

The tour suits travelers who like calm, close-to-nature outings and can paddle for a few hours. It is suitable for all physical fitness levels, but it is not recommended for pregnant travelers, travelers with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health. Specialized infant seats are available, and public transportation options are available nearby.

The price includes private transportation, life insurance and medical expenses, a life jacket, paddles, entrance to the reserve, and water and fruit. Breakfast is not included, and neither is the drop-off in the center.
