Kayaking Bioluminescence Tour Under the Stars at Holbox

This is a guided night kayak tour in Holbox that pairs stargazing with a search for bioluminescence. It lasts about 105 minutes and paddles out to the sandbanks of Punta Mosquito.

The experience begins at one of two meeting points in Holbox: La Choza Pink, or directly at the main starting point in the Morgan’s Paradise beach area. If you choose La Choza Pink, you walk along the beach for less than 10 minutes to reach the departure point.

From there the guided part starts on land, with an observation of the night sky. You can pick out stars, planets and constellations before the kayaking expedition begins.

Then you paddle to the Punta Mosquito sandbanks in search of bioluminescence. Once the guides find the best dark area, the group stays there for approximately 45 minutes to interact with the phenomenon. Swimming is optional, for those who want to be closer to it.

The tour suits all fitness levels, and infants must sit on an adult’s lap. It is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, pregnant travelers, or those with poor cardiovascular health. Public transportation options are available nearby.

The kayak and equipment are included, along with mosquito repellent. Since you will be on the water at night, it is worth keeping that in mind when deciding whether to swim.
