Los Cabos Sunset Turtle Release Conservation Experience

This turtle release experience is a wildlife conservation program run by Rancho Carisuva for more than five years. Visitors can adopt a baby turtle and help release it into the ocean, learning about the species and its habitat with a certified marine biologist as guide. The whole outing lasts around four hours.

The visit begins at the ranch, where you can meet its conservation programs, which focus on donkeys and turtles. This first stop takes about 20 minutes, and the ranch also has a donkey sanctuary that the operator invites you to visit.

The turtle part of the program is explained in detail. From July to September, Olive Ridley and Black turtles come ashore in Cabo to lay their eggs deep in the sand before returning to the sea. The baby turtles hatch about 45 days later, and during that time the ranch protects the nests and takes care of the eggs, with the goal of raising the survival rate as much as possible.

The biologist-led tour is meant to be both educational and enjoyable. You learn about sea turtles and how endangered they are, then take part in releasing the hatchlings back into nature and watch them begin a new life in the ocean after leaving their nests. For many visitors this hands-on contribution to conservation is the main appeal.

The experience is suitable for all physical fitness levels, and specialized infant seats are available. A van waits for you in the lobby of your hotel. The price includes bathrooms, bottled water, in-vehicle air conditioning and certified guides.

Not included are gratuities, the turtle's certificate of birth, merchandising and the photo session, so budget for any of those you want. As the release depends on the nesting season described above, confirm with the operator which dates the program runs when you book.
