Puerto Vallarta Botanical Gardens Hiking Tour

This outing combines a hike, the Puerto Vallarta Botanical Garden and time on the Horcones River in a single day of about six hours, depending on the collection point you choose. The operator describes it as a full immersion in nature and local culture, led by native guides in small groups.

The visit includes full entrance to the Botanical Garden, which the description says has the most visited orchid collection in Mexico. Besides the garden, you walk private riverside trails and meet rescued exotic animals at an on-site sanctuary.

The river is the other half of the day. The Horcones River is described as pristine, and the ticket includes kayaks, slides and river activities, weather permitting. You can swim, slide, paddle or simply relax. Note that the exclusions mention a US$2 port fee for the boat departure from the marina, payable in cash or by card at the office, so part of the route seems to start on the water.

This is a good fit for travelers with at least a moderate level of fitness who like nature, animals and a bit of river play. It is not recommended if you have spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health or are pregnant, nor for anyone over 285 lbs (129 kg). The operator suggests its ground transportation option for pregnant women, children under 5, and people with heart, back or shoulder problems, so they can still enjoy the other activities.

Practical tips: arrive at the meeting point 15 minutes before your departure time. Wear comfortable shoes, and bring a swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, insect repellent, a camera with a strap, extra money and a debit or credit card for lunch or souvenirs.
