Puerto Vallarta Nature Hike, Beach and Tequila Tasting Experience

This four-hour outing in Puerto Vallarta combines a nature walk, a tequila tasting and an afternoon on the coast. The organizer compares the first stretch to a botanical garden tour, because you learn about local plants while watching for wildlife along the way. It suits travelers who like to move, get a little wet and end the day on a beach.

After a short bus ride, you walk through a tropical town and follow a stream framed by lush vegetation, fruit trees and native wildlife. This first stop lasts about 60 minutes. An optional jungle zip-line is available if you reserve one day in advance, so the operator can arrange a meeting point for it.

Next comes a visit to a local distillery for an artisanal tequila tasting of traditional and flavored varieties, planned for around 45 minutes. From there you hike toward the coast, passing beaches that range from rugged rocky shores to soft sandy stretches, with time to take photos. You then stop at a small palapa restaurant right in front of the beach, which specializes in seafood and is also the place to use the restroom.

The day ends at a southern beach with gentle waves, semi-white sand and calm, clear water, good for swimming and snorkeling among colorful marine life. Massages, paddleboards and jet skis are available as optional extras. You can stay longer and go back on your own by taxi, Uber or bus; the operator notes that getting back is easy, while getting to the restaurant is a bit harder.

Expect about 3 km of moderate walking on rocky terrain, and expect to get wet, so tennis shoes or water shoes are recommended. The tour is gay-friendly and designed mainly for adults; younger participants are welcome, but parents should be aware of that. It is not suitable for travelers with limited mobility, and it is not recommended for people with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health or pregnancy. A moderate level of fitness is expected.
