Puerto Vallarta Small-Group Whale Watching Experience

This small-group whale watching outing in Puerto Vallarta and Banderas Bay focuses on humpback whales. Each winter, the humpbacks migrate from their arctic feeding grounds to breed and rear their young along the sheltered coasts of the bay, and this trip is timed around that visit. It is a 3-hour speedboat ride, so the total duration is about 180 minutes.

A marine mammal expert leads the outing. The idea is to explain what you are seeing and why the whales come to Banderas Bay, while the boat keeps you at sea level. The operator highlights that this low vantage point offers a rare perspective on animals of this size, and it is a good setup for photographs.

An included set of hydrophones lets you listen to the whales, and the price also covers purified water and a light snack. Hotel pickup and drop-off, gratuities and admission fees are not included, so plan how you will reach the departure point. An additional conservation fee of 25 pesos per person is collected at check-in, and all of it goes toward the conservation of the humpback whales.

The tour is suitable for all fitness levels, but it is not recommended for pregnant travelers or for people with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health, largely because of the speedboat ride. Please note that this type of boat has no toilets and no shaded areas on board, so bring sun protection and use the facilities before you go.
