Sayulita & San Pancho: Private Day Trip from Puerto Vallarta

This is a private day trip from Puerto Vallarta to two coastal towns on the same stretch of coast: Sayulita, known for its surf-town spirit, and San Pancho, described as a quieter neighbor with uncrowded beaches and boutique galleries. Only your group travels, in a private air-conditioned vehicle with a licensed local guide, so the day can be shaped around what you want to see.

The tour starts at your door, whether that is a hotel, villa, Airbnb or cruise ship terminal in Puerto Vallarta. Without traffic the drive to Sayulita takes around an hour. The first stop is San Pancho, where you visit the beach and the cultural hub, with art galleries, community projects, beach strolls and workshops, for roughly 30 minutes.

On the way to lunch, the vehicle passes through the middle of Sayulita, so you get a first look at its colorful shops, cafés, street vendors and relaxed atmosphere before getting out. Lunch is at an oceanfront restaurant-bar with fresh seafood and cocktails, planned for about an hour. Lunch itself is not included in the price, so budget for your meal.

After lunch you explore Sayulita on foot, an optional part of the day. There is time to browse artisan shops, sit in the town square, have a cold drink and take photos at the town’s iconic letters, for about an hour of free time. The return trip takes up to an hour, depending on traffic and where you are staying, and the driver drops you at your door.

The day suits couples, families and small groups who prefer to control the pace. Note that a minimum charge equivalent to three guests applies, even for solo travelers or couples. Car seats are provided for children and infants, though you can bring your own; infants may not ride on a parent’s lap.

Bring comfortable footwear, light clothing, sunscreen or a hat, a camera or smartphone and any medication you need. Cash in USD or MXN is recommended for tips and purchases, since some shops in Sayulita and San Pancho may only accept cash. Guides speak English and Spanish. Pickups are usually at 9:00 or 10:00 AM (Jalisco local time), and start times can be adjusted.
