The experience
Yelapa sits at the southern end of the Bay of Banderas, a small village with no cars at all: the road stops a couple of kilometers short, so the only way in is by boat. This snorkeling day trip pairs a stop at Los Arcos with a long visit to Yelapa, whose calm bay of clear water has the feel of a quiet retreat. The listed duration is 480 minutes, most of it spent on the water and in the village.
The first stop is Los Arcos, where you get about an hour to snorkel. From there the boat continues to Yelapa, arriving around noon. The operator stresses that there is no rush here: the stop is deliberately long so you can enjoy the place properly rather than just pass through.
With your guide you take a short walk uphill into the forest to find Yelapa's hidden waterfall. Back on the beach, the remaining time is yours. You can go horseback riding or paddleboarding (SUP) with the local suppliers, keep snorkeling with the group, or simply relax with a margarita or a plate of local ceviche by the water. The guide stays available for questions and local information.
The trip is described as suitable for all fitness levels, since the only real effort is the short uphill walk to the waterfall. It is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, pregnant travelers, or anyone with poor cardiovascular health.
On the practical side, the price covers a local guide, snorkeling equipment, bottled water, snacks and beverages, including alcoholic ones. Lunch and gratuities are not included, so plan to eat in Yelapa. Public transportation is available nearby.
