4.9 184 verified reviews

This nine-hour day trip from Mérida is centered on the cenotes around Homún, a village known for them. The operator, Colibrí Travels, says that all the cenotes visited are surrounded by native flora and fauna, are not crowded and have safe stairs for access. You can swim in all four with a life jacket, which is included, and at Cenote Pool Uinic you can swim without one if you prefer. Snorkel masks are also included.

The day starts at 08:00. It takes about 45 minutes to leave Mérida, then the van stops at a self-service store so you can buy water and snacks for the road. At 09:00 the group is on its way to Homún, about an hour away. The vans are modern and air-conditioned, guides are certified and the tour is bilingual in Spanish and English within the same van.

The first cenote is Pool Uinic, a cavern cenote where you have about an hour and 15 minutes to enter and swim. Then you go to Santa Rosa Park, which has two cenotes: Yum Kimil, an open one, and Santa Rosa, a cave cenote. You have about two hours to enter both and swim. The last is San Antonio, another cave cenote, with about an hour and 15 minutes.

Lunch is served at the restaurant in the same place, a typical dish with vegetarian options available. The tour ends at the same meeting point where you were picked up, between 04:30 and 05:00 p.m., after a return drive of about one hour from Homún.

The tour is suitable for all physical fitness levels, but the operator does not recommend it for travelers with spinal injuries, pregnant travelers, people with poor cardiovascular health or people with walking problems. Arrive on time, as the wait at the meeting point is a maximum of 10 minutes. Come in swimwear already put on and water shoes, bring a separate towel and a change of clothes, and do not use sunscreen. The operator also suggests a good breakfast before leaving.

Included are the certified guide, round-trip transportation from Mérida, entrance tickets to all the cenotes, a refrigerator on board, lunch, a life jacket (mandatory) and a snorkel mask. Carbonated beverages are not included. The operator contacts you the day before by WhatsApp with recommendations and a reminder of the departure time; passengers board in order of arrival at the office, so aim to be there about 10 minutes before 08:00 a.m.
