A day at the beach in Sisal

This is a shared day tour from Mérida to Sisal, a port on the western coast of Yucatán, on the Gulf of Mexico. The operator lists 8 hours in total, and the tour includes three places to visit and swim, with the operator picking you up at your hotel in Mérida and returning you there at the end.

Sisal is described as a small town with white-sand beaches, where migratory birds arrive and where water activities are on offer. The day is based on staying in touch with nature, moving by motorcycle cab, which is the local means of transport, or by bicycle.

The first stop starts in the center of Sisal. You take a motorcycle cab to an eye of water, a freshwater spring, and have free time to swim. Then comes the mangrove trip: you choose between a kayak for two people or a canoe, enter the reserve and enjoy the flora and fauna, with the chance to see migratory birds such as flamingos.

When the mangrove outing ends, you can choose a city tour by bicycle or motorcycle cab. Bicycle use is included. To finish, you are taken to a restaurant near the edge of the beach to rest, eat and swim. The tour then returns to Mérida.

The tour is listed for travelers with at least a moderate level of physical fitness, and it is not recommended for pregnant travelers. Infants must sit on an adult's lap. The operator includes travel insurance, a kayak, bottled water, snacks and the goods and services tax.

Food and beverages are not included, and neither are tips, so bring cash for the restaurant. Pick-up applies only to hotels in downtown Mérida and does not apply to Airbnb, so check your accommodation before booking. A swimsuit, sun protection and a towel are sensible for the swimming stops.
