Chichen Itza, Cenote Swim & Magical Towns Tour with Lunch

5.0 2 verified reviews

This full-day tour (about 480 minutes) combines Chichén Itzá, a swim in a Mayan cenote with lunch, and a short stop in the colonial town of Izamal. Transportation is described as comfortable and modern, with hotel pickup from most centrally located hotels if you select that option.

At Chichén Itzá you enter with skip-the-line access and a professional local guide, who explains the Mayan civilization, its advanced knowledge and its lasting contributions. This part lasts about 120 minutes and is the historical core of the day.

Next comes the cenote at Hacienda Selva Maya, known for the formation of its cenote. Mayans regarded cenotes as sacred places with a deeper meaning, and here you swim in its refreshing waters. A homemade lunch is served on site, and this stop takes about 90 minutes.

The last stop is Izamal, a small colonial town where you can take a short walk around the plaza, look for local desserts or take photos. The stop lasts about 30 minutes.

This tour suits travelers who want archaeology, a swim and a small-town stop in one day. You should be able to walk at a leisurely pace for about 1.5 miles (2 km) and to climb and descend stairs. Travelers should have a moderate fitness level, and the tour is not recommended for those with poor cardiovascular health.

Bring swimwear, a towel, a change of clothes, sunscreen, insect repellent and cash for incidentals. Be ready in your hotel lobby or meeting point 15 minutes before pickup. An extra fee is paid in cash on the day: 750 MXN for adults and 250 MXN for children at Chichén Itzá, plus 250 MXN per passenger for the cenote. Drinks, life jacket rental and lockers are extra. Children 2 and younger are free with a paying adult.
