Chichen Itza Ruins Adventure! Cenote Ikkil and Izamal from Merida

4.8 5 verified reviews

This full-day excursion from Mérida links three places in Yucatán: the Chichen Itza ruins, the Ikkil cenote and the town of Izamal. The itinerary lists a total of 720 minutes, and the operator points out that this duration includes travel time, so expect a long day on the road as well as on foot.

The day starts at Chichen Itza with a certified guide. According to the itinerary, the visit covers the sacred cenote, the Temple of the Warriors and the Temple of Kukulcan, and it counts about one hour of guided time plus one hour of free time. After the tour you can take photos or wander around the archaeological area at your own pace.

From there the group goes to Cenote Ikkil. The itinerary allows around 150 minutes for the swim and the lunch. Entrance to the cenote is included, along with a life vest and lockers, and lunch is a regional buffet with one drink. The operator highlights the views from both the top and the bottom of the cenote.

The last stop is Izamal, the so-called magic town, with about 90 minutes to see some of its best-known spots: the convent, the main park and the local market. Free time in Izamal is part of the package.

The tour is listed as suitable for all physical fitness levels, but it is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, pregnant travelers or those with poor cardiovascular health. Infants must sit on an adult's lap.

Some practical points matter for planning. Chichen Itza entrance is not included: it is 697 MXN for foreign visitors and 310 MXN for Mexicans with ID, and it can only be paid in pesos, in cash. Backpacks of any type are not allowed at the ruins, and only small bags are permitted, so travel light.

Transportation is round trip from Mérida, but the pick-up may not be at your hotel. The supplier can assign a meeting point even if the hotel is listed, and confirms this in advance. The main meeting points are Parque de Santa Ana and Hotel Fiesta Americana Mérida, and the pick-up time depends on the location, so confirm yours before the day.
