This 12-hour day trip from Mérida (720 minutes) packs four stops into one day: Chichén Itzá, a Maya community, the town of Valladolid and the town of Izamal. It is designed to be enjoyed without haste, with guided explanations at each place and free time to wander, take photos and eat.

The day begins with pick-ups at the established meeting points, so be on time. The drive to Chichén Itzá takes about an hour and a half. There a certified archaeological guide leads a tour of roughly one hour and twenty minutes on the history, architecture and symbolism of the site and the Maya achievements in astronomy and construction. After that you have about 40 minutes of free time to explore at your own pace.

Next comes a transfer of about 30 minutes to the Maya community of Real Mayab, between the villages of Kaua and Cuncunul. Here you take part in a Maya ceremony led by a spiritual leader of the community, then have a meal of typical regional dishes prepared with traditional recipes, and finally time to look at handmade crafts made by community members.

The third stop is Valladolid, one of Mexico's Magic Towns. Your guide points out key places, including the church of San Servacio and the convent of San Bernardino, and you have about an hour and a half to walk its streets, shops and cafes. The last stop is Izamal, the Yellow City, where the guide gives an introduction and you then have free time to wander its streets, see the convent and try a marquesita. The return to Mérida takes about an hour.
