Flamingo Watching Private Tour in Celestun Biosphere Reserve

This private, full-day tour takes you from Mérida to the Celestún Biosphere Reserve on the Yucatán coast, a UNESCO-listed wetland known for the pink flamingos that gather in its lagoon. The day is built around a boat trip through the mangrove forest and includes round-trip transportation from Mérida.

The day begins at the center of Mérida or at your hotel, where your guide picks you up in a modern, air-conditioned private vehicle for the roughly 1.5-hour drive to Celestún.

Once there, you board a boat with a local guide to sail through the mangroves of the Ría Celestún Biosphere Reserve. Along the way you may spot herons, seagulls, fish, crocodiles and, occasionally, an ocelot. Celestún is known for its pink flamingos, visible from November to April during their courtship season, and the boat ride gives you the chance to photograph them in their natural habitat.

After the wildlife viewing, the tour moves to Celestún Beach, where you can sit down to Yucatecan cuisine, including seafood and drinks, at one of the town's restaurants. You also have the option to swim at the beach before continuing.

You then get an hour of free time, during which your guide drops you at a convenient spot to have lunch or do some shopping on your own. From there, the private vehicle takes you back to your hotel or the city center to close out the day.
