Full Day Tour of Chichen Itza and Magical Towns of Yucatan
The experience
This full-day tour from Mérida combines Chichén Itzá, the Yucatán cenotes and the town of Izamal, described by the operator as one of the seven modern wonders and a former Mayan city, together with a cenote swim and a stop in a Magical Town known for its yellow buildings.
The day starts early, with pickup beginning at 8:30 a.m. and departure at 9:00, followed by roughly a two-hour drive to Chichén Itzá. There you'll spend about an hour and a half on a guided walk through the archaeological zone — taking in the Kukulcán Castle pyramid, the Ball Court, the Temple of the Warriors and the Sacred Cenote observatory, spread across roughly 15 square kilometers — plus an extra hour of free time for photos. According to the operator, admission to the site is charged separately and was priced at around $580 MXN at the time of writing.
From the ruins, the group heads to a cenote, where you'll have about two and a half hours to swim at your own pace and eat the à la carte lunch offered at the site. The operator describes it as one of Yucatán's most beautiful open-air cenotes, surrounded by green areas, and quotes admission at around $250 MXN. The group plans to head back around 5:00 p.m.
Before returning, the tour stops in Izamal, the Magical Town that grew around the San Antonio de Padua convent — noted as the first convent built in Yucatán — where you'll have free time for breakfast and to explore the convent's history and architecture. Izamal is also known for its uniformly yellow-painted buildings.
This is a good fit for travelers who want to cover Chichén Itzá, a cenote swim and a colonial town in a single day, and who are comfortable with a full schedule. It's built for a reasonable level of fitness rather than travelers who need a fully accessible experience, though the operator notes it can accommodate infants with specialized seats and offers wheelchair-accessible transportation.
In-vehicle air conditioning, entrance to Izamal, round-trip transportation and lunch are included. Tips, entrance to the cenote and the Chichén Itzá entrance fee are not included and are paid separately. Service animals are allowed and public transportation options are available nearby the pickup area.
