Mérida: Maya Train, Chichén Itzá, Izamal & Cenote Tour with Lunch
The experience
This 12-hour day tour from Mérida begins with an unusual choice of transport: the Maya Train, which takes you to Izamal, the ‘Yellow Town’. From there the group continues by van to Chichén Itzá and a cenote, with lunch included.
The morning starts with hotel pickup in downtown Mérida and a short ride, listed at about 60 minutes, to Teya Station. The train ride to Izamal takes about another 60 minutes and lets you see the landscapes of Yucatán along the way.
In Izamal you walk through the yellow-painted streets, visit the Convent of San Antonio de Padua and have free time to stroll, shop for handicrafts or take photos in one of Mexico’s best-known Magical Towns. This stop is scheduled for about 60 minutes.
Next comes Chichén Itzá, one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World, where you explore the Kukulcán Pyramid for about 90 minutes. Then there is time for a simple buffet of traditional Yucatecan dishes, about 40 minutes, before the final stop at Ik Kil Cenote, where you can relax and cool off for about 60 minutes. The return to Mérida takes around 90 minutes and drops you at the same hotel or another downtown location.
The operator lists the tour as suitable for all physical fitness levels but not recommended for pregnant travelers, people with spinal injuries or people with poor cardiovascular health. It includes the Maya Train ticket, lunch, an air-conditioned vehicle, a guide throughout, an interactive online game to reinforce what you have learned (shareable via WhatsApp) and hotel pickup from downtown Mérida. Not included are entrance fees (foreign visitors $676 MXN, Mexican nationals $303 MXN), the cenote ticket ($240 MXN) and drinks. Pickup is between 7:30 and 8:10 a.m., and you will receive a WhatsApp message to help locate you.
