Merida's Ultimate Experience Shopping TOUR

This is a curated shopping tour of Mérida, listed at about 300 minutes, aimed at people who want to see the shops most visitors, and often locals, never find. It was put together by an interior decorator and professional buyer, and is presented as a fun, educational and hassle-free introduction to some of the city's best-kept retail secrets.

The route takes you to 7 or 8 shops, at roughly 30 minutes each. Some are on quiet streets, in overlooked neighbourhoods, on the upper floor of a building or behind unassuming doors. They range from sophisticated boutiques to cooperatives and family-owned cottage-industry shops, with a theme of unique, quality goods and stores that fit a variety of budgets for both men and women.

What you might see is broad: textiles, art, pottery, natural health and wellness products, shoes, hammocks, leather, gifts, perfume, jewellery, home decor, blown glass, local and national artisanal pieces, and antique and vintage items. Some shops offer in-store education or demonstrations and samples of honey, mezcal or chocolate, with Mexican snacks and refreshments.

Transport is door to door in an air-conditioned vehicle, with cold drinks available in the van and during the tour, and the operator states it runs rain or shine. A private guide provides English and Spanish translation. Store discounts are offered, though some apply to cash purchases only.

Bear in mind that lunch is not included, the tour is not wheelchair accessible, and large purchases may require pick-up after the tour. It is suitable for all fitness levels, service animals are allowed and public transportation is nearby. The operator describes the tour as welcoming to everyone. The source gives no meeting point, so confirm pick-up details when you book.
