Private Merida Beach Tour Columpio Island Chuburna and Progreso

This private, nine-hour beach tour from Mérida is built for up to four passengers and covers four stops along the coast: Columpio Island in Chuburná, Chuburná Beach itself, the Poseidon statue in Progreso, and Progreso Beach, all with a bilingual driver.

The day starts at Columpio Island, a spot inside a protected mangrove ecosystem in Chuburná where you can swing above calm, shallow, crystal-clear emerald and turquoise water, or simply relax in a hammock or under a palapa. Kayaking through the mangroves, boat tours and birdwatching are also possible in the area, but these are not included in the tour price; your driver can take you to the marina so you can arrange the boat ride separately, at around 250 Mexican pesos per person.

From there you continue to Chuburná Beach, a coastal town known for its white sand and clear water, good for sunbathing, a relaxed swim, or a walk along the shoreline and nearby mangroves.

The tour then heads to Progreso to see the Poseidon statue, installed on the waterfront in late May 2024. Standing nearly three meters tall and depicting the god of the sea, it has become a local landmark for photos along the boardwalk, and, as the operator notes, also something of a talking point among locals.

The last stop is Progreso Beach itself, with calm, shallow water suited to all ages, a boardwalk lined with restaurants, bars and shops, and the chance to photograph the town's monumental letters and walk along one of the world's longest piers. The Museo del Meteorito sits nearby, though admission is not part of this tour. Your guide gives you about an hour here to eat before wrapping up the day.

The tour includes a bilingual English and Spanish driver, private transportation for up to four passengers in an air-conditioned vehicle, bottled water throughout the day, and the visits to Progreso Beach and the Poseidon statue area, over the full nine hours. Food, government fees, and the boat ride to Columpio Island are not included, though food and drinks can be bought at local businesses along the route.

Because it is a private tour, any special requests should be checked directly with the operator, and the order or timing of stops can vary. The tour date cannot be canceled once booked, and your confirmation is issued at the time of booking; buying handicrafts or souvenirs along the way is entirely optional. It is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health, though it otherwise suits all physical fitness levels, and your guide will meet you by name outside your hotel's lobby.
