Sisal Mangroves & Beach Expedition from Merida

This tour pairs a mangrove excursion with beach time in Sisal, a small fishing town on the Yucatán's northwestern coast, known for its white sand, boat rides through the mangroves and, seasonally, as flamingo habitat. Once a busy commercial port, Sisal today is a quiet fishing village that makes for an easy escape from Mérida.

The day starts with a morning departure from Mérida, timed to make the most of the day. On arrival in Sisal, the group takes a mototaxi — a local three-wheeled vehicle — to reach the mangroves.

From there, you'll explore the mangrove channels aboard a chalana, a traditional wooden boat, or paddle through at your own pace in a kayak, with a guide sharing insight into the ecosystem and pointing out migratory birds and the area's biodiversity along the way.

The tour then stops at Ojo de Agua Carbonera, a natural coastal spring with clear water where you can cool off, before moving into about three hours of free time on Sisal's beach and in town. That time is yours to relax on the sand, swim in the Gulf of Mexico, wander the town's streets and try local seafood — the guide can recommend places to eat, though lunch itself is not included.

The group then heads back to Mérida, returning to the same pickup location where the day began.
