Tour Hacienda and Cenotes Mucuyché with Guided Tour in Oxkintok

4.9 42 verified reviews

This nine-hour day trip from Mérida (540 minutes) combines an archaeological site, a former henequen hacienda and two cenotes. It follows the Puuc Route to Oxkintok, described as one of the oldest Maya settlements in the area, and then turns to Hacienda Mucuyché. All entrance fees are included, so there are no extra admission costs. The operator is Colibrí Travels, and the tours are bilingual (Spanish and English) in the same van.

The departure is at 8:00 a.m. Leaving Mérida takes about 45 minutes, followed by a stop at a self-service store to buy water and snacks. Around 9:00 a.m. you continue toward Oxkintok, roughly one and a half hours away. The source is not fully consistent on drive times, so treat all times as approximate.

At Oxkintok you visit the ruins with a guide for about an hour, with entry included. The guide explains the main points of interest, and you have free time to take photographs and explore on your own.

Then comes the hacienda. You take a two-hour guided visit of Hacienda Mucuyché and its cenotes, where you can swim, and changing rooms are available. To move from one cenote to the other you cross a freshwater canal, either swimming or walking along a stone path. The visit is followed by about two more hours at the hacienda restaurant, which also has a pool; lunch is not included, so budget for it. The tour ends where you were picked up, between 5:00 and 5:30 p.m., after a return drive of about an hour and a half.

For practical planning: the price covers a certified guide, transportation from Mérida, tickets to the hacienda, Mucuyché cenotes and Oxkintok, snorkeling masks and a fridge on board. The vans are described as modern and air-conditioned. Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness. The tour is not recommended for pregnant travelers, people with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health or walking difficulties. Infants sit on an adult's lap, and small children can ride in a pram or stroller. You are contacted one day before via WhatsApp with recommendations and the departure time. Vehicles fill in order of arrival at the office, so arrive about 10 minutes before 8:00 a.m.
