Hacienda Yaxcopoil was founded in the 17th century. Its name means "place of the green poplars" in the Mayan language. The hacienda's history brings together the three great periods of the Yucatán of yesterday: pre-Hispanic life, the colonial era and the henequen boom of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
