About the destination
Huatulco is Oaxaca’s low-key beach resort, built around nine bays and some 36 beaches where the Sierra Madre del Sur drops into the Pacific. A large share of the coastline is protected as Huatulco National Park, which keeps the water clear, the reefs alive and the development deliberately restrained — the destination holds long-standing environmental certifications rare on the Mexican coast.
Days here revolve around the water: swimming at Santa Cruz and Chahué, snorkeling the cove at La Entrega, and boat rides between bays only reachable by sea. Inland, the Copalita archaeological zone marks the southern edge of the Mesoamerican world, and the misty sierra above Pluma Hidalgo grows some of Mexico’s best coffee.
