About the destination
Playa del Carmen grew from a fishing village and ferry landing into the walkable heart of the Riviera Maya. Life runs along Quinta Avenida — a five-kilometer pedestrian spine of restaurants, boutiques and street performers one block from the sand — while the beaches themselves face the turquoise channel toward Cozumel island.
Its superpower is position: the passenger ferry crosses to Cozumel’s reefs in under an hour, some of the Yucatán’s most famous cenotes line the highway in both directions, and Tulum, the Sian Ka’an biosphere and the great Maya sites of the interior are all within day-trip range. It is the Riviera’s most convenient base for travelers without a car.
