We present current and contemporary art by artists of Maya and Zoque language and culture. More than 20 artists devoted to art are associated with MUY, self-taught and academically trained, with practices in classical and new media: painting, sculpture and ceramics; photography and video, installation and performance. With a special interest in validating and exploring identities among the Maya and Zoque peoples, these artists share within and beyond as citizens of the world, and with concerns about the environment, gender equity, decolonization and appreciation for the traditions of autonomies. Arteria was born as a proposal in the Chiapas art field that combines the traditional activity of an art gallery with a space dedicated to projects focused on questioning the local, national and international context through art. As a gallery, we are interested in solid proposals from emerging artists, both in their originality and in their creative development. Our interest is to keep an open dialogue about the meaning of art today, its expressive possibilities and its capacity for reflection. We mainly support young local artists, boosting and promoting their artistic creations.

La Guarida is an art studio and shop created by Camila and Jaime in the center of San Cristóbal de las Casas. We are a warm, welcoming space that seeks to make art a more accessible and everyday experience, far from the distance we sometimes feel in galleries and museums. Here you will see the traces of materials, sketches, half-finished works and even pieces we are not yet sure will fully work. You will find works for sale to connect with, give as gifts, collect, or take with you as a souvenir of a trip or a personal journey.
