Bookstores & Libraries

A FONDO DE CULTURA ECONÓMICA bookstore based in San Cristóbal de Las Casas. We are a state-owned company dedicated to fostering and promoting culture, mainly reading.

We are a bookstore offering a wide range of interesting topics and fascinating reads from various publishers. If you plan to invest, let it be in knowledge.

Long ago, a young entrepreneur dreamed of sharing his enthusiasm for books and his love of reading with many people. This man, mature at last, made his life into a book, a fantastic one at that, and traveled half the world bringing warmth and life through letters, imagination and thought... 40 years traveling with his books on his shoulder were not enough to sow light in people's paths; there is a mauve future with better lives behind every book... That is our legacy, that of Hugo Carballo for books, and the book always traveling on his shoulder. Today Ateneo is that tangible light of legacy and dream that, through culture and thought, we want to share with you...

We are a bookstore-library, a self-managed cultural space and a collective of booksellers and artists dedicated to promoting Chiapas and world literature, as well as the arts in general, through workshops.

Books in Spanish and English, board games, workshops (tarot, writing, drawing, sculpture). Reference library. Café service.

Second-hand books, antique books, prints, photography and more

Librería El Escritorio de San Cristóbal has 50 years of experience in the book trade; we have a wide selection of teaching materials, educational games and textbooks for preschool and primary school; and law books.

We are a Christian bookstore that puts resources of eternal value within reach of God's people, such as Bibles, books, gifts and much more, offering a wide variety and affordable prices.
